Learn how to Ollie with a skateboard.

Today we will see together how to ollie on a skateboard!

I know that there are already a lot of videos on how to do the Ollie, how to learn to do an Ollie, we will try to see together several techniques that will help you maybe improve your Ollies and go higher and higher with your skateboard.

So let’s go:

In short, and to resume the various points of the video:

Position of the feet:

We will start with the position of the feet on the skate, so the front foot will come and get a little below the screws of your front truck. And the back foot will come to the tail with the heel which can protrude a little but well positioned at the back of the tail. To have a great support when popping on the ground.

The front foot which is positioned a little bit below your front truck screws and the back foot that will come to the very rear part of the skate on the tail, with the heel sticking out, that’s not a problem.

So you have your front foot a little bit below the screws, your back foot well behind the skate.

We’re going to pop very hard with the back foot on the ground. At this point, we can see that when we pop, the wheels take off.

Rebalance the board:

So what to do now is to rebalance the board with the front foot. What we do at this point is we slide forward. When you slide your front foot, the deck is stabilized.

The harder you snap the board, the more your skate will go up and therefore with the front foot you come to slide to re-stabilize it.

When I say “slide”, I mean we move the front foot towards the front of the skateboard. We snap very hard, and we slide; I know there are a lot of people who recommend learning to pop to get an idea and also to practice sliding to learn the movement.

Few tips:

To start, if you are not yet very comfortable on the board, you can put yourself on a floor that does not roll too much. So to be very stable to allow you to make your ollies. And at the same time if you have a ground that is more or less soft, you will hurt yourself less if you ever fall.

I also saw a lot of tutorials with people who put tennis balls to take in the wheels. So you don’t roll and you are more stable precisely to try to train yourself to do the Ollie.

What you can also do is try with a deck without the wheels, to perhaps soak yourself with the Ollie’s gesture. It allows you to try the Ollie several times. To learn how to coordinate your feet, and not to hurt yourself, since the board does not have trucks and wheels, so you are much less likely to fall.

What you can also do is put the wheels in a groove, or on a sidewalk…. Or a ground that allows you to be a little more stable.

Training:

That’s like all other skate tricks, there is no magic! What you need is to repeat several times the Ollie, the gesture with your feet. And step by step you will improve your skills.

And you will go higher and higher. You will see that by placing your front foot more and more down towards the tail, you will have a lot more room to slide forward.

To start, you can start a little closer to the screws and then gradually go back down to have an Ollie a little higher.

When you go to finish your ollie, you will see that your front foot will end up a little more forward, towards the nose.

To show you off on a nice surface, with the tail hitting hard against the ground. I let you a little one for you in slow motion in the video, so that we can clearly see the body which comes down, the knees which bend, a little closer to the ground, to give this impulse and then go up as high as possible to snap this Ollie.

Another thing you can do to practice too is just to take a tree branch. Put it on the ground, and practice passing over from above without touching it. And step by step you will be able to increase the height.

Feet synchronisation:

You will see once you understand how to synchronize your back foot which snaps the tail against the ground. And the front foot, which slides the board towards the nose, you will have understood everything and your Ollies will really improve, you will really feel this progression.

That’s it guys, that’s it for today. I hope you enjoyed the video, you maybe learned some new techniques to improve your ollie.

You will see over time you will really have this gesture which will become automatic. And with your feet which will be well synchronized.

You will go higher and higher and you will feel much more comfortable on the board!
