After the skate session

I hope you all finished your skate session on a good note and had a good day.  Now, here are a few recommendations to help you recover better from the stress on your body after the skate session.

Stretching

As soon as you come back to your stuffs, take the opportunity to do some stretching. If you have a foam roller, now it’s time to use it.

As far as stretching is concerned, it is important not to pull too hard. And if you feel that a part of your body hurts, then don’t insist. While doing your stretches, remember to breathe very deeply.

Even though the session is over, remember to keep yourself well hydrated to enhance the best possible recovery.

Which skateboarder can explain stretching better than Neen Williams??

The chill

At the end of the session you will feel much more relaxed, it’s time to enjoy the Chill a little more!  The best way to sum up “what is the Chill” is to watch the video Filming Crazy by Fred Mortagne.  “A video that will give you pleasant sensations, before or after your next skateboard session.

It’s time to share one last moment with the guys. We laugh, we talk about the day, about everyday life and we already think about the next session.

And why not have a little beer once in a while, we’ll say it’s your reward for skating well today.

Before leaving the spot, pick up all your stuff, wax, tool… and especially if you have waste, think about going to the trash to leave the spot clean !

Say goodbye to everyone and head home.

Rest

Once you get home, you can finally rest. Take a good shower to remove the sweat and dirt that you cleaned from the floor with your body.

Take the opportunity to regain your strength with a good, balanced meal. It seems obvious, but it can never be stressed enough that food and water play an important role in sports recovery. Your next performances will depend on these energy supplies to your body.

Do not hesitate to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, they will bring to your body a great source of vitamins and have unique nutritional qualities. Also I recommend you, whenever possible, to choose unprocessed products.

It’s time to relax. Spend time with your loved ones, indulge in your second passion, watch a good movie, read a book… Do what you want to do, but in a more relaxed state of mind.

You can also replay the session in your head, and take stock of what you liked or didn’t like, things to improve on your skateboard or on your attitude.

For some it’s time to party, because everyone has their own pleasures. If you plan to go out and have a few drinks, do it in moderation, and don’t forget that between drinking and driving you have to choose!

If you have injured yourself during the session, then you will also need to rest. I will soon write an article on “How to recover better after an injury”.  It will detail why it is important to take your time and take the best possible care of an injury before getting back on your board.
